3DO HDMI Upgrade (RetroGEM)

Now you can upgrade your 3DO console to HDMI video output making it fully compatible with modern displays. Experience the entire 3DO library in in true, lossless digital HDMI. For the first time, experience all games in their native progressive scan mode* with no speed up or other incompatibilities that plagued other progressive scan mods.

If your 3DO has had an RGB upgrade in the past, please contact us first before ordering this service. There may be additional charges as this mod has to be removed and clean up work done.

Note – We use PixelFX’s Retro GEM board for these installations. The version that will be installed is the Retro GEM basic, this can be upgraded to the Shiny version at any time by simply purchasing an unlock key from PixelFX. Retro GEM basic is ideal for users who already have upscalers, such as the OSSC Pro or PixelFX Morph. For more information, see this page.

*Although the unmodified 3DO console outputs a 480i/576i signal, the 3DO does not have any interlace games. All titles are 240p transmitted in 480i. The RetroGEM will recover the 240p before the console can interpolate and encode it and output a progressive image with no speed up. This significantly improves gameplay on many modern displays, where deinterlacing can add significant input lag.

Note that RetroGEM uses a mini HDMI output port and so a mini HDMI cable is required.

This upgrade can be installed into all console variants except motherboards with the anvil IC. These are later model variants that no longer expose the digital bus. If your console was manufactured in or after 1995 it may be incompatible, but the only way to know for sure is to open it and find out.
