The PS1 Disc-Based Game ID BIOS Patch is a hardware and software modification that replaces the PlayStation’s stock BIOS with one that adds Game ID support. This allows Game ID system to be used with original optical media. No need to use a ODE or flash cart, you can now use your original PlayStation discs and get full GameID support with the Memcard Pro and PixelFX GEM*
These PS1 BIOS chips are pre-flashed with SCPH-5502 BIOS (PAL) though they should work in other model consoles too. See the compatibility list on the Github page here.
*In order to use GameID via the Game ID BIOS Patch, you must have a Memcard Pro. This applies even if you only desire to use GameID with your PixelFX RetroGEM or PS1Digital. In other words, you cannot use the patched BIOS to enable GameID for your PixelFX product unless you also have a Memcard Pro plugged into your console at the same time.
Once installed, no further configuration is required. Ensure that your Memcard Pro is connected before starting your game. The mod has been tested working with both the Memcard Pro and the PixelFX RetroGEM/GEM Shiny.
NOTE- As of April 2025, these patches have had limited testing when it comes to covering all hardware/firmware configurations. Users who wish to test this BIOS patches should have an easy way to reinstall their old stock BIOS back to stock in case something goes wrong. Please note that installing this upgrade requires soldering skills. Do NOT order this kit until you have read ALL of the fitting instructions and the Github instructions and feel confident with carrying out the installation. Some community based support may be available in our forums but we CANNOT offer technical support with DIY fittings nor can we give refunds on components that have been damaged or destroyed due to incorrect use or failed installation attempts.

Not even installed yet but the board was done cheaply instead of paying the few cents more for castellated edges it is sanded down fragments of board and copper everywhere. I doubt I could solder it in place without going at it under the microscope with a scalpel to make working castellated edges I can actually solder.
