Hey guys an OSSC 1.6 owner here, have these scalers been updated for the current firmware? Also what are the downsides to using outdated firmware with these scalers?
I’m curious to trying these filters out with minimal lag.
Tcl 43s405 is the best bang for buck at that size
TCL 43S405
After how wonderful the 55″ P series was I decided to see if the smaller sibling was as compatible with the OSSC. Thankfully it is as shown in this playlist I was able to pick this TV up from Target for $313. I think the P series is a better TV over all(72 FALD zones, Dolby Vision) but for an inexpensive TV for the retro gaming, this one is a steal.
I find it ironic that this TV can handle 480p x2 from the Xbox while my OLED which is ten times more expensive cannot. Oh well…
TCL 55P605
Here’s the best bang for the “buck” TV. The TCL 55P605 can be had for $599 and is completely compatible with the OSSC as shown here:Saturn
LG OLED 65C7
Ok guys sorry I haven’t posted here in a long time but have a few updates on TVs. First off I now have a LG OLED 65C7 which works flawlessly with the OSSC seen here:Genesis and: N64DDThe only thing that is bizarre is that 480p LineX2 does work for Sega Dreamcast shown here:Dreamcast What’s strange is that I try the Line2X mode with the Xbox and it just doesn’t display a signal. Anyway the LG OLED65C7 is compatible with pretty much everything. It’s also arguably the best TV on the market, it better be for $3000.
I’m trying to capture Sega Saturn with a Blackmagic Intesity Shuttle and it’s been giving me fits. The only time I can get an image from the OSSC is when I first turn it on and see the “GRAY” As soon as I choose the RGB SCART input it dies and I can hear audio still but no video.
This BM Shuttle is notorious for needing exact timings in order for it to work. Thankfully I can set custom timings and that’s worked for me in the past. I do have a “generic” SCART to HDMI scaler that worked fine before although I capture at 1080p. Anyone have any ideas why i get image when I first turn the OSSC on and not when I switch to Saturn?
I can’t speak for Freesync but with G-Sync it’s absolutely amazing for retro gaming.I purchased a new monitor the Acer Predator XB241H which has Displayport for G-Sync and HDMI. I can verify that over a DVI2HDMI cable, this monitor does support linetriple mode with the Sega Saturn. I’ll make a new video soon with the OSSC and this monitor.
Console used: SNES Model SNS-001 via RGB Scart from ebay store retro_console_accessories
Vizio 50″ P502ui-B1 |Lx2:Y|Lx3:Y|SNES:Y
Vizio 70″ P702ui-B3 |Lx2:Y|Lx3:Y|SNES:YI’m getting a 2016 75″ P series TV next Wednesday where I’ll do testing on that. I choose the Vizio TVs due to excellent input delay and phenomenal picture. Here’s a video link of me playing Sega Saturn on the 50″ TV.
