I use my OSSC for everything except the PS2. For some reason I don’t mind it’s bob deinterlace for 32bit systems but the extra detail in ps2 games makes it distracting.
I keep an FM around purely for the PS2 and it’s does a great job. The frame of lag and tiny bit of noise are worth the trade of for the image quality IMO.
#2 a wavey line rolling down the screen every 80 frames (or so) when something is scrolling vertically. I assume it’s a sync issue, no matter what I try, I can’t get rid of it.
I think this is caused by the off spec refresh of a PAL PS1, PAL Megadrives are bad for it as well.
It doesn’t seem to happen on X2 only higher multiples.
I now use a switch modded NTSC Megadrive when I have to use 50hz as it actually closer to 50hz than a PAL console. It still skips a frame every few seconds when scolling vertically but you don’t get the wavy line.

Finally summed up the courage to tackle those SMD caps and resistors (turned out to be no big deal) on my JP VA1 MD and now the distortion is totally gone with no change to tone or volume. It sounds freaking amazing ?

Now just to summon the courage to tackle those SMD components unless you wanna offer it as a service bucko?
Thanks again
March 1, 2018 at 5:14 PM in reply to: Bad audio quality through SCART from Genesis (using headphone out) – OSSC 1.6 #19732As far as I can tell that Sega-16 link is a discussion about that mod not working and the audio being too quiet. I think they eventually figure it out but I couldn’t follow it.
I have a VA1 JP Megadrive that I’d love to fix the preamp distortion issue on but I can’t find an easy to follow guide anywhere (Sega-16 included)
Can anybody help?
February 20, 2018 at 3:55 PM in reply to: Bad audio quality through SCART from Genesis (using headphone out) – OSSC 1.6 #19437Anybody know if you still get this issue if you are mixing the audio from the headphone jack into a mega cd and then using the cd’s RCA connectors through a 1.6 OSSC?
Or does the mega cd apply the appropriate load to the CXA1034PM as it’s getting mixed with CD’s audio?
What TV do you have? Check your HDMI black level is set to Full/Normal. Seems like a settings mismatch to me if its just the OSSC affected.
Tried a different HDMI cable (the one that came with my Xbox One X) and no different. It always catches me by surprise so I’ve never managed to see if it’s the OSSC losing sync. I suspect it’s the oddball refresh of a PAL MS causing the problem so I’m probably stuck with Lx3 but it’s not really a big deal
Yep, you are in PC mode which (depending on your model) has similar or even lower lag than game mode. You can force this for all resolutions by relabelling the input to “PC”
I went with a MU7000 Samsung (MU8000 in the US) and I’m super happy with it. Low lag, great compatability with the ossc and excellent motion (for an LCD). I wouldn’t recommend it to most people though as it has no local dimming leading to substandard HDR. This isn’t an issue for me as I only use it for x360/ps3 and earlier gaming.
Try turning Sync regeneration off on your gscart. Fixed this issue for me on a PAL MS.
I went down this road with a DVDO and in the end just bought a new TV. I miss the DVDO’s pan/zoom controls but don’t miss the random extra lag, poor 480p scaling, random lockup’s or the feeling it could break at any moment ?
What TV are you using? Not exactly the same but I’m using a DVDO unit to inject audio into HDMI with my OSSC 1.5 (until my 1.6 turns up) and I get no audio if “UHD colour” is enabled for that input.
Also I had to change one of the audio settings on the tv to get sound from my framemeister.
Just to update, my problem turned out to be the VGA box and not the ossc. No blackouts whatsoever ever on a 1.5 OSSC with 0.78 firmware.
Thought I’d add some info about the edge regarding lag for anybody thinking of getting one to pair with an OSSC. All these results are taking from the edge’s audio delay slider which I believe is accurate. All consoles are running at their native refresh.
PAL SNES 8ms
RGB modded NES 8ms
PAL Saturn 8ms
PAL MD/MCD/32X 30ms
PAL Amiga 500+ 8ms
PAL PS1 30ms
PAL Jaguar 8ms
PAL Master System 1 30ms
NYSC-J Saturn 25msI also have a Dreamcast and PS2 but don’t use them through the edge, but can test if anybodies interested.
