I’m back from testing: Nothing… Same thing.
Just to be sure, I’ve plugged the OSSC on the exact same wall plug while testing on my monitor, switch the HDMI cable and even tried the other HDMI input on my display that I use for my HD consoles that I know for a fact works: nada.
For all we know, that must be something with the display itself.
Yes, they do appear regardless of the multiplication. Now the power interference is interesting because, while connected to the TV, the OSSC is plugged into a line filter alongside other things, the Wii in the photos being one of them. When I tried it on my monitor, that was another plug (it also was a line filter, but with way fewer things plugged).
I can’t test right now, but if I recall correctly the bigger the input resolution (480i / 480p mainly) the worst the effect, maybe because the OSSC draws more power (just a guess, idk). I’ll investigate this later.
Oh, and the power supply is the official one that VGP sells, forgot to say that.
Unfortunately, that seems to be impossible for some reason; I forgot to mention in the post, but this box does the upscale no matter what, with the 800×600 being the minimum, with no option of turning that off.
Getting straight from the seller’s post, these are the “upscaled” resolutions it can spit out:
800*600 @ 60Hz, 800*600 @ 75Hz,1024*768 @ 60Hz,1280*1024 @ 60Hz,1440*900 @ 60Hz,1680*1050 @ 60Hz,1920* 1080 @ 60Hz,1920*1200 @ 60Hz
Obviously, anything above that VGA gets very bad very quickly since the upscale it applies isn’t any better than my TV, and the OSSC already gives up and passes-through those resolutions anyway.
Well, while I didn’t know about this particular cable, the thing is that the idea behind this anyway is to get a quick and dirty way to connect a console that I still don’t have the correct RBG cables and / or the appropriate mods to do so. So while it might be a GameCube for now, it could be a NES tomorrow, for instance.
And at the end of the day, it seems that the component cables you talked about still uses the digital port on the DOL-001 model… So no luck for me until I get an older model myself.
