I think I did them from scratch but this site helped out a bit

      https://junkerhq.net/xrgb/index.php/Optimal_timings

The sample rates weren’t much different to NTSC though some console do need a different sample rate. If a PAL Neo Geo fits the 240P or 224p image in the PAL frame, the sample rate may be the same as NTSC but I would just try and eye ball it. If you have the 240p Test Suite for the Neo Geo, you can use the checkerboard pattern to dial it in as FireBrandX demonstrated in his tutorial video

Pardon the double post but there is a change.

For SMS, I now recommend +20% on V-Size so that the image isn’t too skinny. In generic mode, H-Size can be adjusted freely. In optimized mode, adjusting H-Size will distrupt the scaling

Ah yes. These settings are best used if not using post processing filters but work great if you wish to fill the screen in 1440p (and you’re like me and don’t wish to convert a PAL gaming setup to NTSC).

I should mention that 1080p OVER mode will hide the borders as well, these settings are more intended for the 1440p modes.

So it’s a more stable Frame Lock?

Both seem recommended for lowest lag gameplay from what I’ve read.

Although, Frame Lock has given me random dropouts rarely and Master System games with the SMS Converter II for Mega Drive don’t work in Frame Lock

Some minor tweaks made to the profiles and are updated for firmware version 0.89. I should probably give a reminder that the “PAL” profile is just a default profile with compatibility tweaks for problematic displays. The rest are for various consoles.

Hope people are still finding these useful

Thought I’d mention that I’ve made some PAL profiles and shared them here

However, I am a little concerned recommending that as I believe forcing a 1600×1440 image can damage the TV but I guess it would be just the same as generic 4x mode displaying a 1280×1152 image?

So because of that, some games need a different sampling phase setting?

I only use optimal timings on PS1 games that use a consistent resolution. If the games switches resolution often (FF7 for example), it’s not worth it

Just noticed. Tested my PS1 512 profile with a few games in that resolution. Works fine but Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 requires a different sampling phase setting despite being a 512 game.

                      The other games tested were
                      Tomb Raider III
Tomb Raider – The Last Revelation
                      Spyro the Dragon
                      Crash Bandicoot

All are fine with Sampling at 90 deg but THPS3 requires 202 deg to have a sharp image despite being the same resolution. Why is this?

Don’t really know. Haven’t used the Framemeister for a long time after switching to the OSSC

You should be able to load the profiles and select the input you want. I do not have profiles for composite and S-Video as I don’t use them

                            New info.

As you may have seen, these profiles cut off some of the image in PAL games. If the loss of images bothers you, increase the V. Active to any value between 240 and 288. Some of you may have known this already. Not sure if it gives any extra sharpness though.

EDIT: Of course, it will depend on your display whether this works.

Thanks. At least now I have more control over the image.

So after a week and a half with the new 4k TV, I’ve found it to accept anything the OSSC throws at it.

I wasn’t aware that the V. Active setting could be used to resize the picture. Couple of questions though

                                1. Can this cause issues with optimal timings?
                                2. Can this damage the OSSC or the display?

                                Thanks.

Ah. Sorry, I can’t help there, never used an everdrive.
