InfiniKey – No battery no problem! – If you are a collector of arcade boards then you are probably familiar with the lengths some manufacturers went to to protect their boards against bootleggers. Capcom in particular used a so called “Suicide” battery on certain CPS-1 boards. This system was designed to wipe the boards decryption keys if tampered with, rendering the game unplayable.
Unfortunately, these batteries are now failing by simply running out of charge, leaving lots of these games unplayable even on their original, Capcom produced boards. However there’s now an easy to install solution that will protect your CPS-1 boards forever, enter InfiniKey.
Just like the popular CPS-2 InfiniKey does for CPS-2 games, the CPS-1 version will bring your old CPS-1 copy protected games back from the dead and ensure that this nefarious copy protection scheme won’t cause the boards to die again. Not every CPS-1 game has a suicide battery. If your game is on the list below, you will need an InfiniKey to bring it back to life:-
- Capcom World 2
- Captain Commando
- King of Dragons
- Knights of the Round
- Quiz and Dragons
- Three Wonders
- Varth
Please note – Plastic cases are too small for InfiniKey CPS-1.
Installation instructions
Installing the board is easy and does not require soldering. As long as you are confident working with Jamma boards it should pose no difficulty. However, please study the video below carefully and ensure you are confident enough carrying out the work yourself before ordering. While community support may be available in our forum, we cannot give technical support with DIY installations, nor can we offer refunds or compensation for parts damaged due to bad/incorrect DIY installations.
You can also watch a video here which discusses the extended features of the board.
