The original Xbox console was a great machine but it had a number of design flaws. First of all, on most models of the console, there is a capacitor that was used as a backup battery for storing the date and time. This capacitor almost always starts to leak and since it leaks corrosive acid it can damage your Xbox motherboard. There’s more information on this fault here. We will dismantle your console and remove this capacitor if necessary. In most cases your console will then simply get the date and time from the network connection as long as that is available.

Secondly, the thermal paste that Microsoft used on the Xbox is not regarded as being too great. As part of this service our technician will remove the heatsinks and apply fresh new thermal compound. This ensures optimum cooling for your classic console and will prolong its life.

The price given above should be considered an estimate. Although the vast majority of consoles can be refurbished for this fee, some may need additional repair work depending on the damage done by the leaking capacitor, or may require a new DVD drive belt.

Do NOT order this service in conjunction with the XboxHD+ Xbox Original Digital Video Installation Service. Since the consoles heat sinks need to be removed in order to fit the HDMI mod anyway, applying new thermal compound is included in the price of the HDMI mod.
