Purchase this service and send us your Sega Saturn to have it fully upgraded with this Upgrade which includes the region free BIOS and the switchless 50/60hz upgrade. This upgrade  will allow you to play any game from any region at the correct speed. If you want the works for your Sega Saturn, this is it!

The region free BIOS replaces the Saturn’s original BIOS and allows games from any region to boot instantly on your console. No messing with cartridges, ugly external switches or cycling through LEDs, just put the disc in and go. Please note this upgrade does not circumvent copy protection, so called backup or pirate copies of games will still not run.

Furthermore, this upgrade will also change the behaviour of your Saturn’s reset button. A quick press will still reset the console, but pressing and holding the button will toggle the machine between 50hz and 60hz output. If you intend to play import games on your PAL Saturn, this upgrade is a must have, since it allows you to play the games at the correct speed. You can also use this upgrade with certain PAL titles, resulting in smoother gameplay at 60hz on unoptimised titles.

Note:- We strongly recommend playing your Sega Saturn console using an RGB cable. On some televisions, import games may appear in black and white when using composite or S-Video connections.

Model 1 console owners:- Certain very early model 1 consoles have socketed EPROM chips for their BIOS, if we find this to be the case in your Saturn we will offer you a substantial discount on the price of fitting the region free BIOS.

Due to minuscule differences in video timings between PAL and NTSC consoles, users connecting upgraded PAL consoles to HDTVs (either directly or via an upscaler such as an XRGB) may experience stuttering/juddering during scrolling in games when playing in 60hz. This is not a fault with our upgrade process (we’re just the only website honest enough to tell you it could happen). Usually, CRT displays are not affected, the only known CRT monitor to have issues is the BVM-A20F1M. see this page for more information.

As stated above, this upgrade includes both the 50/60hz switch and the region-free BIOS chip. If you only need one or the other, you can get the region free BIOS here and the 50/60hz upgrade here.

This upgrade does NOT remove or circumvent the consoles copy protection mechanisms.
