August 5, 2023 at 3:59 PM in reply to: 2X MULTI (Firmware 1.8) – Stuck on high-res 444 mode (Blue LED indicator) #57668
Hi @mrlb, yes this is a problem I’m experiencing with the firmware version 1.8. Sorry not for replying sooner but I think I’ve been on v1.7 for the last year or so and not noticed this problem till now.
The hi-res mode can’t be switched off if the input is 480p or 576p and it creates a resolution and aspect ratio my capture card and TV don’t work with. Trouble is this firmware release has fixed the stability problems I’ve had before now, particularly with 576i input. And the v1.8 is described as “Bug fixes related to sync stability.” It’s a bit of a shame that the v1.8 was released without checking 480p passthrough which was the main selling point for the 2xM. I put this problem onto the retrotink discord “bug-reports” page so will see if there’s much respone there…
May 17, 2021 at 10:46 PM in reply to: Retrotink 2x-Pro Multiformat – Is it possible to get YCbCr limited output? #47433you can revert back to the old firmware (version 1.1) to get 422 RGB.
444 RGB was added as a feature in a later firmware update

not YCbCr though
Hi, thanks this is a useful thread to collect responses.
I agree it seems likely not that many have the 2xPro-M so there’s a smaller volume of people testing and finding any issues. Particularly when there are so many different ways to use it, consoles, cables or operating modes etc.
It would be good if people who have used the 2xPro-M in the same or similar set ups could comment regardless of whether they have had a problem or not. For instance with my post I don’t know if this problem is rare or widespread. It could be people out there are using it regularly as I described with no problem and that would be great to know. Then I could troubleshoot more and maybe find how many setup is different. Or if multiple people have the same problem then it adds more weight to there being some incompatibility with the TINK which hopefully could be improved with firmware. But at the moment it’s difficult to put a perspective on this.
1) I’m from the UK
2) Wii (PAL) with PAL ROMs/discs over component cables
a) get image loss playing 576i/50Hz games. get image loss irrespective of using the TINK in 2x or PassThru modes. the problems occur even after a reset.
similar issues encounted with 480i/60Hz but these are normally correctable through a reset.

March 4, 2021 at 6:14 PM in reply to: Wii and Retrotink 2xPro-Multiformat, image loss playing interlaced games #45666cheers for the reply. It’s interesting someone else has a similar issue but not on Wii. I also get problems that start after like 15min, they are the most annoying haha. It’s almost like it goes out of sync but just takes a while to manifest. I wish I knew enough about video signals to know what’s happening. It’s not a massive problem for me because I can play most games at 480p but I’m still curious whether there’s a fix for this. I might try some older version of firmware just to see if there’s a difference.
I tried this on both a tv Panasonic TX-32LZD80 and a monitor LG Flatron W2442PA-BF and got very similar image loss. I’ll upload a video somewhere so you can see what I mean and people can compare. I’ll try it on a different TV and different Wii soon but with lockdown it’s difficult to get access.
I normally play using the 480p passthru which works just fine. Although I did find if I hook it up to my Elgato HD60s hdmi capture card with 480p game content then the capture card doesn’t work if I have the 2xPro-M when set on the line doubling setting. I think there is something subtly different with the 480p output when the 2xPro-M is set on line doubling versus passthru. The LED shines purple in both these scenarios.
February 16, 2021 at 11:36 PM in reply to: Issue: 2x Multi – 480p passthrough unstable/not working (firmware 1.5-1.8) #45333so 480p passthru worked fine untill the firmware was updated beyond 1.4 and both TINKs behave the same? It’s curious the older firmware is better for you. Is this PAL or NTSC?
480p passthru works well with my 2xPro-M. I use it with PAL Nintendo Wii and component cable.
I do have problems with interlaced input signal particulary 576i/50Hz over component cable and get image loss which varies from being annoying to making a game unplayable.
February 10, 2021 at 12:16 PM in reply to: RetroTink 2X-Pro Multiformat Firmware update issues #45154Maybe try a different micro USB cable? I initially had a problem updating my firmware because the firmware updating tool wasn’t recognising my 2xPro-M. But after swapping out the cable it worked. I can’t remember having your specific error message though…
not got the 2xPro to compare I’m afraid.
I see what you mean about the flow chart indicating the 2xPro-M is better for composite because of the improved composite decoder, which kinda clouds over the difference between nearest neighbour and bilinear scaling.
So if you play NES most, maybe the composite from the 2xPro-M is a good choice.
I doubt there’s a big difference between 2xPro and 2xPro-M with component. Both should look really good compared to composite. Maybe wait to get the component cables and just see how much better the SNES/Genesis look. And then decide if the 2xPro or OSSC might be worth it.
The 2xPro-M is recommended for 6th Gen consoles, 3D graphics and 480p PassThru so given you don’t play those games I’d probably choose the 2xPro. The 2xPro has nearest neighbour scaling so the image should be sharper compared to 2xPro-M. Nearest neighbour scaling is normally a good choise for 2D graphics.
The OSSC might be a good option but never looked into it. It’s more expensive and less of a “plug and play” solution.
Also the TINK-mini doesn’t do scan lines in case you like that option 🙂January 10, 2021 at 3:22 PM in reply to: Wii and Retrotink 2xPro-Multiformat, image loss playing interlaced games #44344was reading this info on the 2xPro-M from RetroTINK website, https://www.retrotink.com/post/introducing-the-retrotink-2x-pro-multi-format
says “zero-lag line-doubling 240p/288p/480i/576i component, S-Video and composite inputs.”
but further down says “The 2X-M also supports PAL and PAL-60 over composite and S-Video.”
but doesn’t mention PAL over component which seems a bit weird…?January 10, 2021 at 2:57 PM in reply to: Wii and Retrotink 2xPro-Multiformat, image loss playing interlaced games #44342yeah it’s not like flickering up/down from bob deinterlacing (or however the TINK deinterlaces). It’s the entire image which is lost and just get black screen for a few frames. I changed the title and post description.
