I did a bit more testing, I can get my switch to work through it (480p, 720p and 1080p) and i can send that data down the av-out onto my pvm (though needs more config to get it to look right on the screen).
So i know my ossc pro is ok and the av-out is ok, just whatever is happening with the steamdeck and its dock.
I even ran the steamdeck dock through different cables, through an mClassic adaptor (all 3 settings) with no luck (I thought it might strip the signal) – but i think the mClassic outputs a 1440p output so that probably doesn’t help either.I’ve got wxEdid on my steamdeck linux desktop, but as you said i need to read up on what i’m doing with it before experimenting with resolutions and timings.
I’ll run some more tests through the linux desktop on the steamdeck but the last time i tried it, the desktop detected the ossc pro as a monitor called “ossc pro” which means it’s reading the edid ok. I was sure it was sending down 720p but i’ll check some more.I’ll ask on the steam forums, see if i can find anything for hdcp for it. I know the dock works directly with tv, just outputting a blackscreen to the ossc pro (it shows up as ossc pro as a monitor in desktop mode). As you said Marqs, there seems to be some black screen issues on the dock so it might be a edid combination or hdcp or something that some tvs absolutely hate (and ossc pro). I wonder has anyone else tried this on their ossc pro with official steam dock yet and got it working?
I’ve only tested with a ps3 but reading across the forums i think ps3 doesn’t work without a stripper. I’ll test with my switch and with maybe ps5 over the weekend too.
I’m not familiar with edid editing, but i’m sure i could figure it out with a bit of time to strip it down to 720p60 (or at the very least make sure it has no 800p entry). Do I just put the bin file into a edid folder on the sd card (fat32? exfat?) and it can be loaded from there using the custom loader? is wxEDID a linux app or a windows one?
Tried again tonight with the following info:
- 0.77 firmware – when running steamdeck into av4, av4 shows “free run” and nothing under signal info for the most part (regardless of extra-av-out). Steamdeck is on latest firmware/sw, dock is latest firmware and can confirm all cables work going into tv, just not through ossc pro.
- can confirm extra-av-out can work for me, i fed through a megadrive and had it showing on both tv and crt at 240p – it even handled the res change in sonic 2.
- on the rare occasion i can get info, it shows up as 800p which is the default res of steamdeck – my guess is ossc pro can’t handle this resolution but it’s accepting it?
- on steamdeck desktop mode, it shows up as Ossc Pro as the display and manually setting output to 720p still shows black screen and no signal info.
- the settings seem to get stuck when using a combination of av4 and extra-av-out – sometimes changing things just won’t affect the output. I would have the output on the CRT stuck to the 480i test image (but still showing menu changes) and I can’t change the position/height/width under scaler. Changing between scaler, pure and adaptive does nothing at times – i would either need to change input or turn off/on the unit to see anything.
Does anyone have a 720p60 edid i can load in the ossc that would force the steamdeck to send that – it might be all i need?
Oh, I seen it was an option on the VGP sale page with an option for rf input, so i figured it was ready and that the hardware version was ready (just out of stock). If one were to get the rf-less version, can the connector be soldered on or is it impossible at that point (if it needs that chip you mentioned)?
Oh yea, that’s a good point, RF antenna have the sound part of it, so you can’t run a line off to the audio input in that case, so it would need to decode it from the rf-input which sets it aside from the other inputs on the module (did s-vid include audio or was it always separate cables?).
Hi guys, would anyone have a good profile list for 1.11? or a convert of firebrand’s stuff to 1.11 via the app? Trying to get my profiles back up and running again after the 1.xx update 😀
Hi all, did this fix make it into the 1.11 release or is this going into 1.12? I have a x90e bravia as well and ps2/ps1 was black-screening at 1.09 (I haven’t had a chance to test it at 1.11 yet) so I just found this thread. Is there a go-to profile for ps1/ps2 use that would include this setting (hpll2x?)?
Hi Marcelo,
Sorry, I don’t know the details of the tracks and chips on the board, it might be best to wait until one of the more experienced members can comment on it. I hope someone can help you further with getting it to work. Might be worthwhile taking more detailed close-up photos of both solder points and saying if it’s an official ossc or not (non-official might be differently built).Hi Marcelo,
I had a similar issue, if it has no sync showing at v1+ it means that the sync mod isn’t supplying the sync signal to the chip (which is what happened me because i messed up). If it still works at v0.9 but not v1 it means that the mod didn’t take. Confirm solder points and cable and going to the right pin on the right chip.
Hi Marqs,
Ah, you are correct, I missed that, it now works as normal; Thank you <3 I must’ve missed that setting when i was taking photos and writing down settings from 0.9 and then applying them again in 1.09 – that was my bad, i should be more careful in copying across my settings next time.
Thanks <3I have tested 1.09a on my setup and like @LaminGaming , I have 480i issues that’s somewhat easy to replicate. Using an everdrive on my megadrive1 (PAL 60hz modded) with a packapunch cable, I turn on the 240p/480i test from the 240p test suite (megacd version) and switch it from 240p to 480i. There is no output (nor green light on ossc) on my x90e tv on 1.09 and i believe this works under 0.90a firmware (I can test).
I can send the video link on request of a video recording of it happening (I’d rather not make it public)My colleague fixed my soldering problem and now my OSSC is working again with 1.08a 🙂 quick test of line6x and it works on my sony x90e from a megadrive (though the sync dropped in sonic 2 when it showed 2player in the demo – at least i think it was 2player mode, and i had to change the hdmi output to get sound down the dvi using audio mod). Also, the pvm mask looks hella fine! <3
Will give it more testing as the days go on.
Anyone got a converted firebrandx profile list or a compatible online profiler? 😀 I can’t hold the github to do it myself 🙁
I did the soldering there tonight (which was hairy, the leg of the chip absolutely refused to let me snag to it) on my older 1.5 board (with audio mod) but i messed up and accidentally soldered two of the chip pins together while getting the wire onto it, taking it into work for a more experienced colleague to help clean up the messed pins and do the wire onto the chip for me 🙁 whoops, bad form Tsuki.

I’ve still been intending to do this mod to my ossc (was a busy xmas period) so I’ll hopefully sort it this week.
I have a pal N64 (everdrive and rgb modded but uses rgb scart cable), is there any specific thing i can do to test this issue too (I run a sony x90e tv if that helps).
Also, side note, has the profiler been made to work with the new updates (I remember reading that back at start of thread that the old ones get wiped on firmware update), or has there been any new firebrandx profiles floating around for the 1.08/1.09 firmwares?
Hi Marqs,
Is 1.09 ok for use on older 1.5-1.8 osscs? I see a .jic version in the folder, is that for the taito owners (or is that profiles)?
ThanksAaah, Thank you Bucko! That alleviates a lot of my fears going into it, I’ll do the mod and then do the firmware afterwards once i make sure it can still boot. Haha, if it works ok I can then report back another 1.5+audio working 😀
