Project Stellar is an Xbox upgrade like no other that has come before. Stellar boasts unprecedented capabilities without effecting or compromising the performance of the Xbox console itself. The upgrade is based around an FPGA with 8MB of RAM, onboard flash memory, and numerous IO connectors for future expansion.

Stellar comes equipped with its own operating system which runs independently of the Xbox’s own software. The OS can be accessed by pressing “Start” during the boot animation. The Stellar OS dashboard will then appear and offers access to all of Stellar’s available features.

We will continue to offer installs using Open Xenium until stock is exhausted. If you do not need the advanced features of Stellar then these kits will perform just as well as far as HDMI output goes and will be considerably cheaper.

Note – If you are not sure what revision your Xbox console is, please choose the 1.0 to 1.5 revision.

Purchase this mod and send us your original Xbox console and we will supply and professionally fit the XboxHD+ HDMI upgrade mod. At last, a true, pure digital video output mod for the original Microsoft Xbox. No more hunting for rare and bulky component video cables or making do with interlace video. Now you can output direct, digital video from the Xbox to your modern HDTV or monitor.

As part of this process we will also remove the heat sinks and apply fresh new thermal compound. This ensures optimum cooling for your classic console and will prolong its life. This is necessary in order to install the HDMI mod and will need to be done even if you have had the thermal compound replaced in the past. We will also replace the consoles clock capacitor if necessary.

Unlike other solutions, with XboxHD+, video is captured directly off of the pixel data bus from the consoles GPU. It is then digitally encoded, and sent directly to your display with no added external interpolation or frame-buffering for a crystal clear image with NO input lag. What’s more, XboxHD+ now offers advanced upscaling with interpolation, colour space, and overscan correction options!

The original Xbox had amazing audio for its time. The XboxHD+ also takes this into account with both Stereo and Dolby Digital audio captured from the Xbox’s digital SPDIF audio and output.

FAQ

Q: Does XboxHD+ add lag?

A: No, that’s impossible. The XboxHD+ does not modify or buffer the raw GPU video signal in any way.

Q: Is a modchip required?

A: A: Yes, either a ‘traditional’ modchip or a Project Stellar. If you are not using a Project Stellar based kit, then patching the Xbox kernel is required to take full advantage of the XboxHD+. While it’s possible to install the patch without a modchip, it is not recommended or officially supported. Under no circumstances will we assist in the using or obtaining of copyright materials.

Q: My Xbox is already jailbroken/modified, will anything be affected?

A: If changing to Project Stellar, we will need to reinstall a custom dashboard. MakeMhz recommends LithiumX but we can install XBMC4Gamers on request. We offer no technical support with dashboards. We cannot install or reinstall any other software, any further customisations are up to you.

We strongly recommend backing up your entire system before sending it to us. Every effort will be made to preserve your data, however please remember the hard drives in Xbox consoles are now very old. Simply writing or changing data on an older hard drive can cause data corruption, so please back up anything important as soon as possible.

Q: Is analogue video output removed?

A: Yes.

Q: What about light guns then?

A: Light guns will still work if you disable upscaling and connect to a CRT via a suitable lag free HDMI to RGB transcoder, such as the HD Fury series. Note that House of the Dead 2 will only work with a light gun if your console is set to interlace output mode. This is a limitation of the original game and NOT a fault with the HDMI mod.

Please note – Xbox consoles often require servicing and replacement capacitors. We cannot carry out this mod on hardware that has underlying defects. If we find your Xbox has faults like this we will contact you and let you know the cost of the repair.
