Perfectly possible as long as you output a mode that your CRT can display. What are you inputting and what mode have you got the output set to?

I don’t have an answer for you but just to let you know your e-mail address is rejecting e-mails from VGP. There is also another discussion thread for the profiles website here – https://videogameperfection.com/forums/topic/profile-settings-web-app/page/6/

It depends on the mod you do but yes, a properly region modded PAL console will play NTSC games the same as a native console would.

            Hi Evelyn,

N64 can be done, I’d look to our friends at retro upgrades for that – https://www.retroupgrades.co.uk/product/n64-ultrapif/

            Megadrive/Genesis the same – https://www.retroupgrades.co.uk/product/sega-md-genesis-region-dfo/

SNES – Unfortunately we’ve had issues getting the parts for the SNES region free for quite some time.

On the SNES and the Megadrive the cartridges are also a different width, so you’d need to dremel widen the cartridge slot or use an adapter. The N64 has a simple plastic bracket that prevents the insertion of different region cartridges.

Some PAL games will work when forced to 60hz (indeed some PAL releases were literally just the NTSC versions on the same ROM with no optimisations for speed difference at all) but many won’t.

If you’re planning on using a scaler rather than a CRT, check before you buy a pre-modded system if it has a DFO type chip installed with the mod. Many of the older mods did not and this can cause issues on more fussy, modern TVs as the refresh rate is ever so slightly out of spec.

what is your audio source and how are you outputting it?

Having 240p/288p set to passthrough is a little unusual, though PC shouldn’t output those resolutions anyway.

Perhaps your monitor simply cannot handle 72hz? As you can see its a monitor issue rather than the OSSC itself. The other modes I suspect are 60hz?

That is unfortunate. I’d like to get my hands on the Reflex Prism DAC for some testing, as that offers a direct SCART output. I wonder if it could deal not only with OSSC Pro but also the direct output modes from the RetroGEM boards, some of which trip up most DACs.

Are you meaning this adapter? https://retrorgb.com/rgb-pi-2-tested-sync-video-issues.html

You can try setting the OSSC Pro into DVI output mode (means losing sound) but I’d avoid that one based on that RetroRGB review.

The best DAC is still the HD Fury 2 by a long way, if you can find one.

We do now know that the N64 outputs audio that is too loud/over amplified by default as this caused an issue recently with the Morph, so the issue really is a design fault in the N64 but of course that’s not much help knowing that now not like Nintendo are going to fix it.

I don’t know why the gain settings aren’t seeming to affect it but I do know we solved the issue on the Morph by simply adding an inline 3.5mm volume control to the N64s output – https://videogameperfection.com/products/3-5mm-volume-control/

That’s easy to do with s-video or composite not so easy if you’re using SCART however we have had a solution for SCART for some time there were just delays getting it to fab, I’ll update here when it’s available.

Is it a PAL Gamecube? Only PAL Gamecubes can output RGB. Even so you’re better off using component as this unlocks the ability to use 480p, which works much better on modern displays.

What signal are you trying to send? It looks like when you try and send 31khz modes to a 15khz TV.

Does it work in the test pattern?

Just tested and no issue here with HD Fury 3 and Mitsubishi Megaview, with an Xbox Series S and OSSC Pro in adaptive line multiplier mode and scaler mode (CRT) downscaling from 720p to 240p. Using RGB output rather than component though.

it’s unlikely that a consumer CRT would support sync on green, this isn’t in the SCART spec.

You could also try Output Opt->CSync combiner see if that setting helps.

Try toggling the composite sync output on the OSSC Pro. Is the RetroTINK cable including some kind of sync combiner?
